Spending time with others to talk about things that are more deeply, like the meaning of life, hope, and instead of frivolous things like a chat about the weather or congestion, can make a person happier in his life. According to Matthias Mehl, a psychologist from the University of Arizona, United States.
"This is very interesting, because we can be more happy if we want to open up for discussion that is more deep and personal," said dr.Mehl.
He said the conversation "containing" can bring happiness for two reasons, namely because every human being has urge to seek and create meaning in his life. Second, because humans are social creatures who always wanted to connect with other people.
"The interpersonal, with a deep discussion, we can create a bond with other people. And as we know, and interpersonal relationships are an important basis for happiness," said Mehl.
In his research, Mehl small study involving 79 students who are willing to put on a tape recorder to record every conversation that they do with other people for four days.
Then the tape is divided into a discussion that is lightweight, like a chat about the weather or TV show, and chat more "weight", for example on issues of warm, philosophy, religion, and education.
The happiest person, based on their confessions about life satisfaction, are those who often make more of a discussion with others. These people are just happy to make small talk 10 percent, or three times a day, and talk as much as 28.3 percent means more often than people who are not happy.
